IAEM Annual Scientific Meeting 2019

 

IAEM’s 2019 Annual Scientific Meeting will take place in the Clayton Hotel, Sligo on 7-8 November looking at medicine across the lifecycle, with a pre-conference ultrasound workshop on Wednesday 6 November.

Abstract Submission

Pre-conference workshops

Point-of-Care Ultrasound Workshop

Time: 9am-5pm
Location: Clayton Hotel, Sligo
Cost per person: €300 (reduced to €250 if attending the IAEM ASM)

Full-day Ultrasound workshop based around the individual learning needs. We tailor the course around your requirements. Our course features an experienced faculty of international and local trainers, with the emphasis on hands-on, practical teaching in a fun, relaxed atmosphere.  

Options:

  • Full Introductory Level 1 ( US Basics, ELS, AAA assessment, Free fluid assessment)
  • Sign-Off Level 1 (Available only to ASTEMs or equivalent)
  • Advanced Modules (Cardiac, Simulation Moulage, MSK, Regional Anaesthesia, Lung US, Thoracocentesis, Shock and Hypotension protocols etc)
  • US for PEM

Water Rescue Workshop

Time: 1pm-5pm
Location: Strandhill beach, Sligo
Cost per person: €85

This afternoon pre-conference workshop will teach the fundamentals of open water safety and rescue in an exciting and hands on approach.  Peter Conroy, the course instructor, is the leading expert in open water rescue in Ireland.  He is a paramedic with DFB, a qualified wilderness medicine instructor and the founder of the Irish Tow Surf Rescue Association.  He has a wealth of experience in providing medical cover to surfers in some of the most dangerous conditions in the world, and he is featured on the ITV series ‘Rescue: river deep, mountain high’.  

This half day course will be held on Strandhill beach, where Peter will cover open water safety basics, the prehospital management of a drowning and hypothermia, cold water submersion, and all the rescue procedures for a person in trouble in the water, including the use of rescue boards, throw lines and reaching equipment.  Participants will then get the chance to practice these skills in the water.  Finally, to wrap the day up, the participants will get a surf lesson from qualified surf instructors!  Wetsuits and board rental are included in the price.  

HeartCode ACLS

Time: 1pm-6pm
Location: Clayton Hotel, Sligo
Cost per person: €230

HeartCode ACLS is an Advanced Cardiac Life Support Providers Course most suitable for the healthcare professional that has successfully completed the traditional ACLS training in the recent past (< 5 yrs preferably) or has regular exposure to Cardiac Arrest situations.  All candidates must have current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification prior to attending this course.  

HeartCode is delivered in 3 parts: 

  • Part 1. A web-based, self-paced instructional program that uses eSimulation technology to allow students to assess and treat patients in virtual healthcare settings.  In this environment, students apply their knowledge to real-time decision making and skills development.  Debriefings and coaching are provided immediately after each simulation to facilitate learning about basic and advanced life support.  Candidates must successfully complete the HeartCode ACLS Part 1 online portion and the written exam before completing parts 2 and 3.  A certificate of completion will print which must be presented for parts 2 and 3.  The duration of Part 1 depends on each candidate but can take in the region of 9-11 hours.
  • Part 2: Hands on skills practice session with an AHA ACLS instructor.  
  • Part 3: Skills test with an AHA ACLS instructor.  

Parts 2 & 3 – the face to face portion of the programme – will be facilitated in the Clayton Hotel, Sligo, as a pre-conference workshop on the afternoon of 6 November.  

Registration for all workshops opens soon and places are limited – book early to avoid disappointment.
