Membership Information

Who may join?

Membership is open to doctors working in or with an interest in the specialty of Emergency Medicine.

Since 2011 membership is open to Medical Students at a nominal fee. As a goodwill gesture, the Association decided at its recent AGM to allow free Medical Student membership for the 2013 subscription year. To avail of this, students should download the Affiliate Membership Form and return the fully completed form including the Direct Debit mandate to the Association's Honorary Secretary as instructed on the form. The DD mandate will not be activated for 2013.

The Association is always keen to see doctors at an early stage of their Emergency Medicine careers join the Association.

Categories of Membership

Categories of membership are defined in the IAEM Constitution and are as follows:

Full Membership is available to a doctor who holds a substantive post as a Consultant in Emergency Medicine or Paediatric Emergency Medicine in either a public or private hospital in Ireland or is listed on the Medical Council (Ireland) Specialist Register in the division of Emergency Medicine or Paediatric Emergency Medicine.

Associate Membership is available to a Non-Consultant Hospital Doctor, such as an Associate Specialist; Associated Emergency Physician; Staff Grade; Specialist Registrar; Registrar; Senior House Officer; Intern or equivalent, working in or having an interest in Emergency Medicine.

Affiliate Membership is available to Medical Students with an interest in Emergency Medicine

Since January 2011 Associate Membership of IAEM has included automatic membership of the Irish Emergency Medicine Trainees Association (IEMTA) which previously cost €50 per annum.

2013 Annual Subscription

Annual Subscriptions for the calendar year 2013 remain the same as those that applied in 2012. They are as follows:

Full Members

€420. Discounted to €350 if paying by Direct Debit.

Associate Members

€170. Discounted to €140 if paying by Direct Debit.

Associate Membership of IAEM includes automatic membership of the Irish Emergency Medicine Trainees Association (IEMTA).

Affiliate Members

Nominally €40, discounted to €20 if paying by Direct Debit.

As a gesture Medical Students will pay nothing for the 2013 Subscription year subject to them fully completing the membership application paperwork and returning it to the Hon. Secretary.

Application for New Membership

The process of initial membership application is as follows:
