Membership Page

Who can join?

Membership of IAEM is open to doctors working in the specialty of Emergency Medicine. This includes doctors who wish to pursue a career in Emergency Medicine but are currently working in another medical specialty as part of their general training.

The Association is keen to see doctors at an early stage of their Emergency Medicine careers join the Association.

 

Categories of Membership

Categories of membership are defined in the IAEM Constitution and are as follows:

Full Membership

Full Membership is available to "Consultants in Emergency Medicine appointed to approved, substantive or long-term temporary posts in public hospitals under the auspices of the Health Service Executive. Consultants employed in Emergency Medicine in Ireland who are outside of the public hospital system may apply for consideration for Full Membership by applying in writing to the Honorary Secretary."

Associate Membership

Associate Membership is available to "Locum Consultants in Emergency Medicine, Specialist Registrars, Non-Consultant Career Grade Doctors, Registrars, Senior House Officers" in Emergency Medicine.


2010 Annual Subscription

Annual Subscriptions for the calendar year 2010 are as follows:

Full Members

€300. Discounted to €250 if paying by Direct Debit.

Associate Members

€75. Discounted to €60 if paying by Direct Debit.

 

Application for New Membership

The process of initial membership application is as follows:

  • Establish which category of Membership (Full or Associate) you are eligible for (see above). If you are a doctor interested in / with some clinical practice in Emergency Medicine but do not appear to fit into the designated grades referred to in the extract from the Constitution, please apply for Associate Membership.
  • Download and complete fully the relevant Application Form & Direct Debit Mandate

  • Return the completed Application Form & Direct Debit Mandate to the Honorary Secretary

  • Applications will be processed by the Honorary Secretary and placed before the Executive.

 

Renewing your Membership for 2010

  • If you are already a member and paid by Standing Order in 2009,  you will need to

a) complete a Direct Debit Mandate and return to the Hon. Treasurer as explained below.

b) cancel your existing Standing Order mandate by an instruction to your bank in writing.

 

In order to prevent an inadvertent duplicate payment you must ensure your Standing Order mandate is cancelled. This cannot be done by the Association on your behalf. The Direct Debit mandate system replaced the Standing Order payment system for payment of subscriptions on 31st December 2009 but like any valid Standing Order it remains in force until formally cancelled.
