The Irish Association for Emergency Medicine aims to:

• Promote high standards in the diagnosis and management of acute and urgent aspects of illness and injury affecting patients of all age groups with a full spectrum of undifferentiated physical and behavioural disorders.
• Support and encourage research so that standards are kept under review and improved.

While the Association’s remit is the Republic of Ireland, IAEM plays an international role through membership of the European Society for Emergency Medicine (http//:www.eusem.org) and the International Federation of Emergency Medicine (http//:www.ifem.cc/). Who may join?

Membership is open to doctors working in the specialty of Emergency Medicine or doctors wishing to pursue a career in Emergency Medicine although currently working in another specialty as part of their general training.  See our Membership page for fuller details of categories of membership, application forms and instructions as to how to join.

The Association is always pleased to receive applications from would-be members and particularly welcomes applications from doctors early in their Emergency Medicine careers.

Annual Conference

The 2009 IAEM Annual Conference took place at the Sheraton Hotel, Athlone from 15th to 17th October 2009. The Conference was extremely successful with an interesting academic and research programme and enjoyable social activities. See the Annual Conference 2009 page for further details.

The 2010 Annual Conference will take place at Faithlegg House Hotel in Waterford from 14th to 16th October 2010. More details will be provided in due course both on the Annual Conference 2010 webpage and on the dedicated IAEM 2010 website.
