IAEM Website Policy

The Irish Association for Emergency Medicine has two websites in use, namely www.iaem.ie and www.emergencymedicine.ie. The website policy applies to both sites.

Mission Statement

The purpose of this web site is to facilitate the objectives of the Irish Association for Emergency Medicine, including:

  • To promote high standards in the diagnosis and management of acute and urgent aspects of illness and injury affecting patients of all age groups with a full spectrum of undifferentiated physical and behavioural disorders.
  • To support and encourage research so that standards are kept under review and improved.

The site will serve as an information portal for members and the public alike.

Confidentiality

  • The site must not contain patient identifiable information.

  • Patient images must not be used without the written consent of the patient.

  • Contact details of members, users or contributors should not be made available to non- registered users of the site without their express permission.

Appropriateness

  •  Material that may reasonably be considered abusive, indecent, offensive, defamatory or discriminatory is not allowed.
  • The site should not contain personal content or commercially sensitive material.This website contains links to other sites.
  • This does not necessarily mean that IAEM endorses these sites. IAEM cannot be held responsible for the content of these sites.

Copyright/ Intellectual Property

  • Material owned by another person or group may not be published on the site without the owner's consent. Authorship/ownership should be acknowledged.

  • Material from the site may be used for educational purposes but only if the owner or IAEM (whichever is applicable) is acknowledged.

  • Otherwise, users may download and/or print material for personal or IAEM use only.

 

Material contributed to the website

  • The IAEM web site editor shall have overall responsibility for the content of the site; while each section shall have a section moderator who is responsible for the content and updating of that section. See Contact Us button on top menu bar.

  • Each document contributed must contain the author(s) name, date and due revision date.

  • Where a document includes a link to a site, it is courteous to ask permission of the owner/ administrator of the site, where possible.

Security

  • Unauthorised access of non-public areas of the site or modification of material on the site is prohibited.

  • Any documents or images uploaded must be scanned with up-to-date anti-virus software.

  • Contact details that appear on any part of the site must not be used for unauthorised purposes, e.g. unsolicited commercial communications.

  • Access to certain areas of the site may be restricted - it is the user's responsibility to keep their usernames and passwords secure and not divulge them to a third party.


Patient Information Materials

 

Any medical information on the site that is intended for patient/public use should be:

  • Understandable - for example use the literacy check function on your word-processing software

  • Complementary - it should be clear that this material is intended to support and not replace a medical opinion

  • Evidence-based - insofar as is possible.


Privacy Statement


This statement relates to the privacy policies of the IAEM web site:

Personal data may be collected and stored for the purpose of

  • Registration / membership.

  • Subscription to services such as newsletters, e-mail notification, RSS feeds etc.

  • Dealing with feedback and comments.

  • Other information a user may choose to submit.

This data will be stored securely and not disclosed to a third party.

 

NOTE: it is the responsibility of the user to ensure that their contact details are updated in the event of a change.
